Tennis is one of the longest standing and most reputable sports in the world with a fan base of over 1 Billion people. This sport’s fans consider Wimbledon the worlds premier tennis tournament and hundreds of thousands will travel to watch it, millions more will stay tuned to their TV’s and radios, to follow the proceeds of the 14 days tournament.
Wimbledon dates back to 1877 with the Wimbledon Championship inaugural with the gentlemen’s singles being the only event. Since then the tournament has evolved and now Wimbledon consists of five major events, four junior events, and seven invitation events. Major events include Gentlemen’s Singles, Ladies’ Singles, Gentlemen’s Doubles, Ladies’ Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
Each year since its inception it has begun on the last Monday of June and has been held in The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club with the exceptions being last year(2017) and the coming 2018 event starting Monday July 2nd.
Wimbledon has over the years attracted high profile spectators with the Royal Family attending year after year. They have a special seating place called the Royal Box and tradition has it that players must bow to members of the royal family if the Prince of Wales or The Queen is present.
White is the only color garb permitted to be worn by the players.
