Katherine Postemski (KP) was born in California, the daughter of an aspiring insurance executive, who, as he climbed the corporate ladder, was transferred around the country, finally ending up on the East Coast where he continued raising his family.
Kathie is as close to being a Florida native as you can get. She spent many years in Orlando, Florida, is as “Disneyfied” as any, and is not afraid of being classified an Orlando girl.
She met Nick (her current husband) in Orlando where she sang with him
in a church choir. When he displayed an interest, she thought, ‘how bad can he be – he sings in the church choir.’
It was not long before she found out that Nick was no ‘choir boy’… He tried to convince her that his real interest in Orlando was that of a snowbird trying to escape the cold of the frozen North. Kathie was fully aware of his true intentions though. He invited her to visit his hometown near Chicago one holiday weekend. It was a place where he had bought the most beautiful house she had ever seen. She felt right at home and before she knew it, she was living in Sun City, Illinois coming back annually to Central Florida as a snowbird . (Choir boy my foot!)
It did not take long for the call of home (she had 2 daughters living in Central Florida) to rekindle. In 2011 the Postemskis moved to the Sunshine State, to the Cypress Lakes community, permanently.
Her first impressions of the Cypress Lakes tennis facilities were unflattering. She had been a board member of her tennis club in Illinois that boasted 250 members and 8 tennis courts: 2 measly looking courts here in Cypress Lakes was not impressive!!.
The day after she moved in, she went to Open tennis and was blown away, not by the courts but by the people.
When she walked on court play stopped. The players came over to introduce themselves and welcome her. Kathie said, ‘it was the nicest, most welcoming group of tennis players she had ever met gathered together in one place’ (but the 2 court tennis enclosure was unflattering… lol). Kathie soon realized that it was not about the facilities but really about the people.
Most of us agree with those sentiments and this writer says “Amen” to that.
Kathie was quickly drafted into service as Frank’s “right hand man” doing things that he preferred not to do. They made a great team!
Today, Kathie is a champion of Cypress Lakes tennis. You can depend on her to advise the club in almost anything. She comes to Open tennis when we need her most. (no snowbirds around and the pickings are few). She is always pleasant and just a joy to be around. Open tennis is not the same without her there.
Of course Nick (her dear husband) is always willing to be our official club photographer. His work is always on display on our tennisjunkies.net website. All pictures relative to the Cypress Lakes Tennis Club are Nick’s work.
Thank you Kathie for your dedication and your service. Nick, we appreciate you a lot.The CLTC would not be the same without you both. Your advice and counsel are always welcomed and appreciated.
